As a clinical and organizational psychologist, specializing in leadership development and executive coaching, if there is one thing I have learned it’s that there is no one way to “do” leadership and no 10 steps to follow.
Being a great leader means being someone who is committed to their own self - and other - awareness and is committed to their own personal and professional development.
To that end, the books that I recommend to all new leaders are about understanding your own psychology and gaining insight into the psychology of others. This enables you to be agile and flexible in your leadership approach.
One caveat: these are just books. If you are a new (or experienced) leader, invest in your own leadership development through coaching. Books will give you great ways to think about things and digest new (or old) concepts, but the greatest learning comes from delving into your own real-life-in-the-moment self-exploration.
