Are you a retail rookie learning the ropes of the business? Or are you a retail veteran looking to improve your skills? If you answered "yes" to one of these questions, then this path may be for you! This learning path breaks down how to efficiently and effectively prep merchandise for purchase or rental with a simple three-step process.
Intro to Retail: Prepare Merchandise for Purchase or Rental
The sales process usually starts with the eyes. Do regular walk throughs through your store to ensure that items on display are aesthetically enticing to customers. Make sure items are in their designated area, shelves are clean, products are neatly stacked or hung, and price tags are visible. Customers want to buy or rent products that can be found easily!
In the second step, communicate key information to the customer. This step requires you to have a strong knowledge of your company's products and offerings! If there are any care instructions or warranty information for the purchased or rented item, include it with the receipt and/or paperwork and provide it to the customer. Also, inform the customer of any maintenance that may need to be performed on their item, how often it should be brought in, how long they can estimate the work will take and what is included in the service. If possible, set their appointment for their first maintenance service while they are with you. This demonstrates that your company provides excellent service and is committed to the customer's satisfaction.
In the third and last step of the process, follow your company's protocol for preparing the item to depart with the customer ( i.e. cleaning the rental car, checking fluid levels and tires, cleaning the piece of jewelry, pressing the suit, etc.) This final step is critical to closing the sale. Create a lasting impression on the customer by going the extra mile and confirming that the item is ready for immediate use.
