Creating an online discussion space, often referred to as a backchannel, is one of the ways that nearly all teachers can create more opportunities for students to interact with them and their classmates. Not every learning experience has to be a live online session. You can use discussion board activities to reduce the amount of time students spend in a live online session. It also gives them more control over their learning experience.
