As trainers or learning professionals we all want our learners to be successful, but what does student success look like and how do we know if and when learners have achieved success? The truth is student success encompasses many aspects of the learning experience. All of the activities, policies and practices can contribute to success and so when designing any curricula it is important that you understand who your learners are and the contexts within which they learn best.

When using learning analytics to improve student learning you need to follow an analytic process. This article highlights the following steps in that process:
Start with a strategic question
Find/collect the appropriate data to answer that question.
Analyse that data with an eye toward prediction and insight
Formulate and present in whays that are understandbale and actionable and
Feedback into the process of addressing strategic questions and identifying new ones
