Change is a way of life in business these days, and this means that all leaders must lead through change. If change is personally hard for you, this makes leading organizational change that much harder. But even if you enjoy change, the old adage, "People hate change," has some grounding in truth. So what's a modern leader to do?
The first thing to realize is that people don't hate change, they hate change that's done to them. They hate change that makes them feel powerless. They hate change that brings no discernable benefit to them.
By contrast, if you reframe change to give them a role, make them feel impactful and bring them personal benefit, you'll usually find people to help you change. And if you get enough of them helping you, the ones that truly do hate change can't cause too much mischief!
