This article explains the ISO (International Organization for Standardization) recommendation of what constitutes the key metrics for evaluating the usability of any system. Using usability metrics, it is possible to observe and quantify the usability of any system irrespective if it is software, hardware, web-based or a mobile application. This is because the metrics presented here are based on extensive research and testing by various academics and experts and have withstood the test of time.

In terms of instructional technology, these metrics can be applied in measuring the LMSs, multimedia, and e-learning materials.
