Journal entries are, according to the Journal of Accountancy, highly susceptible to management override and fraud. The most frequent, says the Journal, are manual override entries involving fictitious or premature revenue recognition. Although internal controls are put in place to help prevent fraud-related material misstatements from occurring, some employees do find ways of getting around these controls.
